Recreational Pilot Licence (RPL)
Your journey to becoming a pilot starts here.
The Recreational Pilot Licence (RPL) is where every pilot begins — the foundation of your aviation journey. At West Coast Aviation, our instructors are passionate about flying and dedicated to sharing that passion with every new student who steps through our doors.
Throughout this course, you’ll master the fundamentals of flight: aircraft control, aerodynamics, basic manoeuvres, radio communication, emergency procedures, and introductory instrument flying.
By the end of your training, you’ll be a confident and capable RPL holder, ready to take friends and family on unforgettable scenic flights.
Imagine the freedom of taking your loved ones soaring above the coastline — it all begins here, at West Coast Aviation.

Once you’ve met the required competencies, you can progress directly into your PPL training without completing a separate RPL flight test or theory exam.
At West Coast Aviation Advanced Flight Training, our experienced instructors will guide you through advanced flight techniques and navigation training, giving you the skills to plan and execute flights anywhere in the country — even internationally.
Your PPL training includes both dual and solo navigation exercises and a written theory examination. While many students study independently, our team is always available to provide support, mentorship, and exam preparation guidance whenever needed.
A Private Pilot Licence gives you the independence you’ve always dreamed of — the ability to take family, friends, or business partners flying anywhere in Australia. It also serves as the gateway to advanced qualifications, including Night VFR (NVFR) and Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) training.
Your wings of freedom await — take the next step with West Coast Aviation.

Our instructors are not just teachers — they’re active commercial and charter pilots, bringing current industry knowledge and real-world insight directly into the classroom and cockpit. This ensures that your training remains practical, relevant, and aligned with the standards expected in today’s aviation industry.
It’s rare to find a training organisation where all instructors are working charter pilots, offering an unparalleled blend of experience, mentorship, and networking opportunities.
